Polythene gaskets are made from a polyamide with good mechanical characteristics and very low cast for use in metal structural work and the automotive industry. It is also used in various assembly sectors where high resistance to temperature is not required; they are also widely used in the appliance industry.
Plastics have an increasingly wide range of use in virtually every industrial and consumer sector; however, the packaging industry is the primary user. Polyethylene (PE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is especially sold as a thin film for packaging; While high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is produced in a thicker film for plastic shopping bags or garbage bags. Other plastics used in packaging are polypropylene (PP), polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC); in particular, polypropylene is very resistant to water vapour and is thus used to produce household items and as a fibre for making mats and ropes.
The construction industry is another major consumer of plastics. High-density polythene and polyvinyl chloride are used to make hoses for hydraulic systems and construction panels, while polystyrene and polyurethane foams are used to make panels for thermal and acoustic insulation.
